Internet Legends 2016-2017 The Internet Legends Tour: how to be safe and epic online

Join the Legends league!

Parent Zone is proud to work with Google once again as the Google Internet Legends assemblies return for another school year.

The assemblies, launched last year, see primary schools around the country hosting a special assembly in which the children learn about how to stay safe online.

The Google Legends assembly introduces pupils to the four pillars of the Legends Code, giving them a simple but powerful way to think about online safety.

They’ll learn why it’s important to:

  • Think before you share
  • Protect your stuff
  • Check it’s for real
  • Respect each other

The Internet Legends Tour is designed for pupils in Key Stage Two, giving them the information they’ll need as they start to discover the online world. The tour mixes practical advice with loads of fun - lights, foam fingers, cats and more - and is sure to get your pupils excited about joining the league of Internet Legends.

At the end of the assembly, our new Legends are given a chance to hear from their local MP – participants last year included Karen Bradley, Tulip Siddiq (pictured above), Edward Timpson, Caroline Lucas and Liz Kendall.

Vicki Shotbolt, Parent Zone's CEO, said: ‘Working with Google on this project has enabled us to support many more primary schools with messages that are vital for children of this age. We know from our work with schools and with parents that helping children to become confident and safe online is an essential life skill and it is important to prepare them for a time when they will be independently exploring online.’

What people say

‘Many thanks for the brilliant Google show you put on to teach our children about staying safe online. It was pitched perfectly and the interactive nature engaged the children and helped get across the important message in a fun and unforgettable way. It was organised very professionally and the communication from all parties helped ensure it ran very smoothly.’

Joanna Young, Principal, Leighton Academy

‘The Assembly at Vicarage was outstanding, and I welcome Google’s ‘Internet Legends’ initiative aimed at primary school children. The internet holds out vast potential for children to learn and explore, but it's vital too that they know how to stay safe. I hope that ‘Internet Legends’ help many children - and their families – to have fun and stay safe online.’

Stephen Timms, Member of Parliament for East Ham

‘Many thanks for the assembly today – the children were buzzing about it for the rest of the day and went home full of it...there will be lots of parents in Boston tonight learning about how to be ‘epic’ online!’

Jo French, Tower Road Academy
